Velosity Entity Relationships
To navigate Velosity effectively, it is important to understand how different business entities—from a lead in the funnel to a final production order—relate to one another. Velosity uses a linked data model that ensures traceability across the entire product lifecycle.
The Core Workflow Loop
Most work in Velosity follows a logical progression, though the platform is flexible enough to bypass steps when necessary (e.g., creating an order without a quote).
1. Sales Funnel & Opportunities
The Sales Funnel is the starting point for new business. - Linkage: An opportunity in the funnel can be linked to one or more Sales Quotes. As the quote progresses, the opportunity automatically moves through the funnel stages.
2. Sales Quotes (The Estimate)
A Sales Quote is a formal proposal sent to a customer. - Structure: Each quote contains one or more Line Items, which can be loose items or complex configurations built via Smart Quote. - Conversion: Once accepted, a Sales Quote is converted into a Sales Order.
3. Sales Orders (The Commitment)
A Sales Order represents a firm commitment from the customer. - Linkage: It retains a link to the original Sales Quote for historical reference. - Authority: The Sales Order is the "Parent" record for all downstream production activity.
4. Production Orders (The Build)
A Production Order is the actual work instruction for the shop floor. - Linkage: Every Production Order is linked to a specific Sales Order Line Item. This ensures that the shop floor knows exactly which customer and order they are building for. - Execution: The Production Order contains the Labor Router and Bill of Materials (BOM) required to complete the work.

Understanding these links helps you find information quickly. For example, from a Production Order, you can "drill up" to see the original Sales Order or even the initial Quote terms.
