The Production Traveler

The Production Traveler is the "passport" for a part or assembly as it moves through your facility. While Velosity is designed as a digital-first platform, we recognize that paper travelers remain a vital tool in many manufacturing environments for quick reference and manual markups.

What is a Traveler?

A Traveler is a generated document (typically a PDF) that contains all the essential information needed to complete a Production Order: - Order Details: Production Order number, Customer, and Due Date. - The Router: A sequential list of every operation (Task) that must be performed. - Bill of Materials (BOM): A list of all materials and components required. - QR Codes: Velosity travelers include unique QR codes for each task, allowing workers to scan them with a tablet to jump directly to the digital task record.

Using the Traveler on the Shop Floor

1. Generation

Planners or Shop Leads typically generate the traveler once a Production Order is RELEASED. It can be printed and attached to the physical parts or the pallet.

2. Digital Bridge

By using a mobile device or tablet, workers can scan the QR codes on the traveler. This bridge allows them to: - Instantly Clock-In to the correct task. - View high-resolution blueprints or CAD files that might be difficult to read on a printed sheet. - Update the task status to WIP or COMPLETED without having to search for the order manually.

Customizing the Traveler Template

Every organization has different requirements for what should appear on their traveler. Administrators can fully customize the layout, fields, and branding of the traveler using Microsoft Word templates.
