Production Events and Labor Tracking

Events are the heartbeat of Velosity's data collection system. They provide a transparent and automated way to track labor, machine time, and operational roadblocks without requiring workers to manually "punch in" and "out" of every task.

How Events are Captured

Velosity uses Action-Based Tracking. When a user with a SHOP or TECH role performs specific actions on a Production Order Task, the system automatically creates an event log.

Trigger Actions

The following interactions generate event logs:

  • Detail Access: Clicking into the Work Order Detail view.
  • Reviewing Specs: Viewing a Document (e.g., blueprints, work instructions).
  • Communication: Adding a Note or using the "Send to User" feature.
  • Progress Updates: Changing a Task Status (e.g., from Planned to WIP).
  • File Management: Uploading or deleting a Document.

The Value of Event Data

The data collected through Events is used for more than just monitoring current work; it drives the continuous improvement of your entire operation.

1. Accurate Job Costing

Events provide a precise record of how much labor time was spent on a specific Production Order. This allows for real-time comparison between Estimated Labor Cost and Actual Labor Cost.

2. Refining Smart Quote Estimates

The most powerful use of Event data is feedback for Smart Quote. If a specific operation (e.g., "Primary Welding") consistently takes 20% longer than the initial estimate, administrators can use historical Event data to adjust the Smart Quote rules. This ensures that future quotes are more accurate and profitable.

3. Identifying Bottlenecks

By analyzing Event logs across different workcenters, managers can identify where work is frequently stalling or where certain tasks are taking longer than expected.

Viewing Events

The Events List view provides a chronological record of all actions taken across the shop floor. You can filter this list by User, Production Order, or Resource to perform deep-dive analysis.
