Serialization and Asset Tracking
Serialization in Velosity allows you to track individual units of a product throughout their entire lifecycle—from production and delivery to long-term service and warranty support. This is a critical feature for industries requiring high accountability, such as aerospace, medical devices, or complex machinery.
The Role of Serial Numbers
A serial number record in Velosity acts as a "Digital Twin" of the physical product. It connects several key data points: - Product Identity: Links to the specific Item from your catalog. - Ownership: Tracks which Customer currently owns the unit. - Warranty: Defines the start and end dates for warranty coverage. - History: Provides a centralized log of all Service Tickets, Repairs, and Maintenance performed on that specific unit.
Managing Serial Numbers
List View
The Serialization List provides a searchable master record of every serialized unit in your system. You can quickly filter by Serial Number, Part Number, or Customer.

Detail View
The Detail view is the "History Card" for the product. It shows current warranty status and provides direct links to any Service Tickets or Trouble Reports associated with the unit.

Data Entry and Updates
Manual Entry
You can manually add or edit serial numbers for individual units, which is useful for small-batch production or when registering a single unit for service.

Bulk Import
For organizations that manage thousands of serial numbers, Velosity supports a robust CSV import feature. This allows you to bulk-register units, often used when migrating data from an old system or importing large batches from an external manufacturing partner.

Supported Import Columns:
- number / serialnumber: The unique ID of the unit.
- customernumber / customerid: The owner of the unit.
- partnumber / itemid: The reference item from your catalog.
- warrantystart: The date coverage begins.
- warrantyend: The date coverage expires.
Integration with Service
If the Service Module is enabled, serial numbers become the anchor for all support activities. When a customer calls with an issue, you can immediately look up their serial number to verify warranty status and review the unit's entire repair history before a technician even touches the part.
